This Is the Part No One Talks About on the Farm

This is that time of year where everything is just starting.

Sweet peas are going in, snapdragons and stock are getting settled, and the ranunculus and anemone are slowly waking up. It’s that in-between season where everything feels a little fragile—but full of possibility.

Dahlias will be going in later this week, which always feels exciting—like we’re really stepping into the season.

Last year I almost gave up on my ranunculus. Our tunnels collapsed and I really didn’t think they were going to make it.

This year… the moles are enjoying some of them.

It’s always something.

Flower farming isn’t easy. There are a lot of ups and downs, and things don’t always go the way you plan. There are moments where you question if all the time and effort is worth it.

But I’ve learned not to give up.

You just keep going. You adjust. You try something different. You show up again the next day.

And I think that applies to more than just farming.

So much of life is like this season—quiet, slow, uncertain. You don’t always see the growth right away. You put in the work, you care for things, and you just have to trust that something is happening beneath the surface.

Some days feel like progress, and some feel like setbacks.

But both are part of it.

I’ve learned that not everything needs to be perfect to be meaningful. Sometimes it’s just about continuing, even when it feels hard.

And then the flowers come.

The first blooms, the color, the life—it always reminds me why I started.

It reminds me that the hard parts don’t last, but the beauty that comes from them stays.

That’s where things are right now—slowly growing, one step at a time.

If you’re in a season like that too, just keep going 🤍

Thank you for being here and following along.

Kelly

Not perfect...but growing into beauty.

Such as life for sure....win some, lose some, cry some, and keep going! I think we all have days asking ourselves.. WHY? But giving up is not an option, its in our blood to keep going no matter how hard it gets. I've lost a lot of crops....animals, weather, fungus, and bugs....but in the end, I think about all the small wins, adjust, and realizing the big win is not giving up! I look at some flower farmers and they blow me away with there bouquets. But realize those flower farmers were in the same shoes as us, and still have struggles, but in time they got to where they are because of all those struggles! We too will grow…
