Spring is just around the corner, with the first day arriving in 14 days. This weekend also brings daylight savings, and I absolutely love how it stays lighter for longer. It’s the time of year when I feel truly rejuvenated. Seed starting began a few weeks ago, and the snapdragons are starting to sprout, which is always exciting! I’m especially looking forward to seeing the ranunculus peeking through. Soon, they’ll be moved outside to a low tunnel, as these cool-temperature flowers thrive in that environment. The low tunnel will help protect them from any late frosts we might get.
This season, I’ve found it a bit challenging not to start everything too early. I’m always eager to dive in, but without a greenhouse, patience is key. Right now, it’s the perfect time to start petunias, violas, begonias, and I recently added coleus to the mix. I really love container gardening and filling my whiskey barrels with annuals. A few years ago, I started growing my own, and I’m thrilled to say that I’ll have plenty to share at the stand this spring!
Recently, I’ve also started herb seeds. There’s something so special about growing herbs, and this year, I plan to expand my variety.
For now, I’ll continue sowing seeds over the coming weeks. We have so many beautiful flowers planned for the season, and I feel truly blessed to be able to grow everything here. I’m also excited to open our roadside stand regularly, starting on April 16th.
It made me laugh when my grandmother, who lives on Cape Cod, told me her daffodils are already peeking through. Meanwhile, here, we’re still looking at a good few inches of snow! Still, I’m thrilled to see my raised beds again, and I can’t wait to dive into all the spring gardening ahead.
